Appenzeller Sennenhund

The Appenzeller Sennenhund is a medium-sized herding breed recognized for its striking tricolor coat and compact, nearly square, well-balanced structure. Athletic and powerful, this versatile dog thrives in multiple roles, serving effectively as a driving dog, watchdog, guard dog, and dependable companion on farms and in active households. One of the four traditional Swiss Sennen breeds, the Appenzeller is also referred to as the Appenzeller Mountain Dog or Appenzell Cattle Dog. Energetic, confident, alert, and courageous, this breed maintains a natural wariness of strangers, making it a reliable and incorruptible watchdog. Highly intelligent and quick to learn, the Appenzeller can master complex tasks with impressive ease. However, its strong will and high need for physical activity mean that it is best suited for spacious environments rather than apartment living.
